Mission Update: Urgent Relief Efforts in Haiti

Back in March 2024, Haiti was experiencing severe economic instability, including rampant gang violence escalating to unimaginable levels, and indiscriminately attacking civilians, including children. Port-au-Prince, the capital, was a battleground with shootings occurring around the clock. Sadly, this organized violence spread to other cities and rural areas.

In response to the escalating danger, an anti-terrorism task force was dispatched to guard the U.S. Embassy in Port-au-Prince in mid-March.

Support for Our Friend Guito

Our dear friend Guito, who has translated for every mission team we've sent to Haiti and has visited Daybreak Community Church, reached out to us in desperation. Guito, his wife Omissie, and their children, Guy and Lea, are living under constant threat from gang violence, gunfire, and starvation. Guito contacted us in early March, pleading for help to get his family to safety.

He requested funds to secure safe passage into the Dominican Republic and to cover the first month's rent once they arrived. Guito assured us they could safely cross the border by bus and stay with friends upon arrival.

Immediate Action and Support

In response, we requested $1,150.00 from “Rev. Lance’s Mission Fund” to support this urgent need. Pastor Jesse and Pastor Brent of Daybreak Community Church agreed to this proposal. In addition to the funds needed to get Guito and his family across the border, we also invested $800.00 towards the deposit, first month's rent, and electricity for their new apartment.

This support is critical for Guito and his family, providing them a chance to escape the violence and start anew in a safer environment. Below is a photo of their new apartment, where they can start rebuilding their lives.

The Broader Picture in Haiti

These efforts are part of our ongoing mission to support those in dire need. The economic situation in Haiti, as of March 2024, has been devastating. The currency has depreciated significantly, inflation is soaring, and the cost of living has become unbearable for many. The violence only multiplies these issues, making everyday survival a challenge.

We are incredibly grateful for the support of our community, which makes it possible to respond to such urgent needs. Your prayers and contributions are making a significant difference in the lives of those suffering in Haiti, including our friends in Vietnam and the Philippines.
