Empowering Minority Communities: Reflections from the Final Week in Vietnam (Winter 2024, Week 4)

As we near the end of our mission journey in Vietnam, we're filled with gratitude for the incredible experiences and opportunities we've encountered along the way. Our last week has been a culmination of heartfelt moments and impactful ministry efforts.

On Saturday, February 17th, we departed from Krong Bong, the hometown of Missionary Kim Anh, and traveled to Pleiku, Gia Lai. There, we had the privilege of fellowshipping with Pastor Hung, his wife Co Man, and their congregation, which included three other pastors. Delivering a sermon on "Children of God," we witnessed unity and faith among six different minority groups: the Kinh's group, the Mong group, the Thai group, the Gia Rai group, the Tay group, and the Nung group.

Following the service, we provided each pastor with a special offering of $100.00 in US funds. Additionally, as a token of appreciation to our host pastor, we presented an extra gift comprising toiletries, medicine, and other essentials for allowing us to share in their fellowship.

Sunday, February 18th, brought us to Pleiku for another powerful service, where every attendee recommitted their lives to Christ and pledged to pursue unity. Following the service, we prayed for anyone who wanted prayer individually or personally. It was humbling and amazing to hear clear and very personal words from the Lord to speak over each individual who wanted personal prayer.

A couple, along with their twelve-month-old daughter, who embraced Christ during Christmas, shared with us the severe persecution they faced from their families for converting to Christianity. The husband had suffered physical violence, resulting in a serious concussion. Additionally, they were denied access to the family well, forcing them to travel to the river for water. Hearing their story of persecution, our team agreed to donate $700.00 in US funds towards the construction of their own well to provide them with access to clean water and to alleviate the suffering endured by their family.

On the same day, we were approached by a pastor who requested us to visit his elderly father, unable to walk or move independently, to offer prayers. This gentleman, likely in his late 80s, holds a deep love for the Lord. His sole desire was to attend church, and tears welled in his eyes upon learning that our visit was for prayer and fellowship with him.

Later that evening, we shared the Gospel with a waitress in Pleiku, leading her to Christ and connected her with Pastor Phuc to follow-up. Seizing every opportunity to share the Good News is the cornerstone of our commitment to spreading God's love wherever we go.

On Monday, February 19th, we embarked on our journey to Da Nang, bidding farewell to our Ankhe partners along the way. The following day, Tuesday, February 20th, our team had the honor and privilege of teaching the word of God to seminary students in Quang Ngai, located south of Da Nang. We partnered with Muc Su Bich (Pastor David) for this opportunity. Some of these students have faced immense challenges, including having their homes burned multiple times, enduring physical assaults, and one individual even served a three-year prison sentence for preaching Christ. Despite such persecution, these students remain steadfast in their faith and commitment to spreading God's word.

On Wednesday, February 21st, we gathered for breakfast with Pastor David and his students in Da Nang, followed by a visit to a recently donated property for prayer.

Lastly, on Thursday, February 22nd, we returned to Saigon to prepare for our journey back to the United States.

As we reflect on our time in Vietnam, we're humbled by the opportunities to spread hope, share the Gospel, and witness lives transformed by God's grace. Thank you for your continued support and prayers as we conclude this mission and look forward to future endeavors.

Blessings,
