We want to thank you for your continued prayers and support as we walk alongside our mission partners in Haiti and beyond. This month has brought both challenges and praise reports, and we’re grateful to share a May update with you.
A Long Road to Surgery
On April 30, President Reedson accompanied Pastor Junior and his wife, Dumercy, to Port-de-Paix for what was scheduled to be her tumor removal surgery. Sadly, after traveling over three hours from Bombardopolis, they were told the surgery would have to be postponed. Despite President Reedson’s repeated attempts to confirm the appointment before they left, no one at the clinic answered the phone.
Upon arrival, the surgeon explained that Dumercy’s biopsy results had not yet arrived from the hospital in Saint-Marc—delayed due to gang activity and violence in the region. Understandably, this was a discouraging moment after so much preparation and anticipation.
We connected with Reedson the next morning via FaceTime and he let us know the surgeon planned to call him within a day or two to discuss the next steps. We waited to share this update until we had all the facts—thank you for your patience and prayers during that time.
Answered Prayers
We’re now rejoicing with news from earlier this week—the doctors were finally able to remove Dumercy’s malignant tumor! While we don’t yet know if they were able to remove all of it, we are hopeful and trusting God for full healing. Dumercy is currently in recovery, and we will continue to share updates as we receive them from Reedson.
This surgery, which was fully funded by the generous gifts of our supporters, is a powerful reminder of what God can do through a connected and faithful body of believers. Thank you for making this possible.
More Updates from the Field
We also invite you to watch our recent Mission Report, shared at Daybreak Community Church on Mother's Day, May 11th. It highlights more mission activity and stories from the first quarter of 2025, including how we’ve supported minority seminary students in Vietnam with transportation costs and invested in local churches abroad—
Please continue to keep Pastor Junior, Dumercy, President Reedson, and the rest of our Haiti mission partners in your prayers. We are believing for full recovery and for God’s peace to reign in a country facing so much turmoil.
Thanks to generous friends like you, we’re able to support life-changing surgeries, help seminary students follow their calling, and care for those in need around the world. If you feel led, click here to donate and be part of what God is doing through Encouraging Word International.
We’re so grateful for your prayers, support, and heart for missions!
