From Vietnam to Vermont: Kim Anh's Journey of Faith and Resilience

I wanted to take a moment to share my story with you – a story of resilience, faith, and unexpected blessings. My name is Kim Anh Dinh, and my life's journey has taken me from the heart of South Vietnam to the tranquil landscapes of Vermont.

I was born in 1974 in the vibrant city of Da Nang, in southern Vietnam. My father served as a general for the US military during the Vietnam War. Unfortunately, when I was just three months old, my father was killed in action. It was a heartbreaking start to my life, but little did I know that this loss would shape my path in profound ways.

At the age of four, my family had to relocate to the jungle due to the turmoil of the Vietnam War. Life in the jungle was far from easy – there was a scarcity of food, proper clothing, and the constant threat of danger. But amidst these hardships, the jungle revealed its beauty to me. Waterfalls, tigers, bears, monkeys – I had the privilege of experiencing the wonders (and dangers) of nature up close.

Life took an unexpected turn when we were given the opportunity to move to the United States. In 1991, we found ourselves in the Philippines, spending six months in a refugee camp. It was during my time there that I found solace and strength in my newfound faith in Christ. On May 20, 1992, we finally arrived in the beautiful state of Vermont.

As I navigated adulthood and becoming a mother at the age of 19, I worked tirelessly, juggling two or three jobs to support my family back in Vietnam and in Vermont. Through the struggles, my faith in God remained unwavering. I gradually came to understand that these challenges were molding me into someone stronger and more compassionate. Acts of generosity and service opened my heart to the transformation that was unfolding within me.

My newfound sense of purpose led me to serve in missions among the forgotten rural churches in Vietnam. It was here that I felt the true impact of my journey. Every hardship I had faced was a stepping stone towards making a difference in the lives of those who needed it most.

Life had another surprise in store for me in 2018. At a missions fundraising event, I met Rev. Lance Curtis Cross. Our connection grew stronger, and we've been happily married for the past three years. Together, we continue to support each other on short-term mission trips and projects, bringing hope and love to places like Haiti, the Philippines, and my homeland, Vietnam.

My journey has been far from ordinary, filled with twists, turns, and unexpected blessings. It's a testament to the fact that even in the face of adversity, there is always an opportunity for growth, transformation, and the discovery of newfound purpose.

With gratitude and hope,

Kim Anh Dinh
